In
the mid-eighties, as a member of WA WA NEE, she received her first Gold
Record for their #1 single Stimulation. By the time she left the band, she
was in demand as a solo performer, and her career took another dramatic
turn, this time into the world of jazz. She performed throughout Australia
and overseas, for P&O and CUNARD cruise lines, on Ray Martin's Midday
Show, and in corporate events and concerts.
In 1991, Elizabeth left Sydney and settled on the North Coast of NSW,
where she produced and recorded her first CD, LOVE IS
, a collection
of jazz standards and a few of her stage musical showstoppers that let
her voice soar to its full, inimitable heights. World renown trumpet player
on the session John Hoffman was so impressed with Elizabeths vocal ability
that he booked her for featured vocalist with the revised Tommy Dorsey
Big Band as they performed for the Prime Ministers Olympic Fundraising
Dinner.
1994 marked her leap into country music with her self-produced SWEET DREAMS
show, a tribute to Patsy Cline that brought NSW audiences to their feet
in SRO shows. She also won the North Coast Dolphin Music Industry Award
for Best Ballad for Find the Way, securing her position as the pre-eminent
singer in a region flooded with talent.
In 1995 she was featured in the ABC-TV documentary Doesn't Everybody Want
a Golden Guitar?
In live performance with the GRAEME CONNORS BAND as well as her own ELIZABETH
LORD'S RHYTHM COUNTRY AND BLUES BAND at 'the Longyard' in Tamworth. She
subsequently recorded albums with Graeme Connors, and Jade Hurley while
winning Female Vocalist of the Year at the 1996 North Coast Dolphin Music
Industry Awards.
Elizabeth received a Golden Guitar nomination for her 1997 collaboration
with GRAEME CONNORS for the song, All That Matters Now, a top ten radio
hit in that year. The recording lead to Elizabeth's second album release,
SHARE . Created with singer/songwriter/guitarist partner Leigh James,
it's a finely crafted blend of mostly original country/folk songs. It
was launched on THE MIDDAY SHOW in late 1997, and its first single, The
Light, was on the country charts for several months, that rare independent
release to make such an impact.
1998 saw the release of three new tracks, two of which appeared on Open
Road II - Unexplored Country by ABC MUSIC. Produced by Jeff McCormack
of The Wheel, the songs Give Me Wings and Sometimes Saying Ain't Enough,
were showcased at the 1999 Tamworth Country Music Festival.
In 1999, Elizabeth received a Golden Guitar nomination for Everything's
Gonna Change, a duet recorded with Gold Coast singer/songwriter Vanya
and produced by Nash Chambers, the song recently enjoyed Top10 success
on the Australian Country Tracks charts.
February 2000 will see Elizabeth off to Auckland, New Zealand to join
the Norwegian Star as she sails for a special America's Cup cruise.
These Blue Eyes is Elizabeth's latest recording. The CD/ EP, produced
by ROD MCCORMACK, was released in January 2000 and includes the single,
Ryleigh's Last Run , placing her in the judges top ten selection for FEMALE
VOCALIST OF THE YEAR at the Tamworth Country Music Awards 2000. Two tracks
of the EP have been included on the ABC playlist nationwide. Listen out
for Elizabeth as she co-hosts the Toyota Outback Club with Colin Buchanan
in May. News just to hand ! Ryleighs Last Run hits the Top Ten on the
Country Tracks chart.
Whether on the concert stage, in cabaret, at folk and country music festivals
throughout Australia, or simply with her partner Leigh James on guitar,
Elizabeth continues to leave audiences spellbound.
Ray Martin says: "Elizabeth Lord is a delight
a sparkler, as
a singer and performer. Her musical and emotional range is terrific. Go
give yourself a treat."
